The hit series shows off some of the most beautiful countryside in Cornwall and you’ll find much of it near Ruthern Valley!
Imagine Ross, Demelza … and Elizabeth (sniff) … in some of these beautiful spots.
St Breward (30 min north) and The Hurlers hosted many outdoor scenes. Bodmin Moor is vast and somewhere on the moor is the exterior of Poldark’s cottage, Nampara. Tregirls beach is a short cliff walk away from Padstow on the Camel Estuary, and Porthcothan (or Nampara Cove) or Holywell Bay are 35 minutes away to the west. Which rocky inlet is Ross’s favourite swimming spot? It’s easy to imagine Poldark and friends striding around Charlestown, famed for its collection of tall ships. Though there aren’t many scenes shot in Truro, Cornwall’s city of granite was the location of choice for the world premiere of the series. One virtually unspoiled spot the Poldark film crew hasn’t found yet is Lostwithiel. 100 years ago, a travel writer described the approach to Lostwithiel as ‘the loveliest inland scenery in Cornwall’. It still is and it’s only 20 minutes away from Ruthern Valley.
